Social Action Events
Whether you are a campaigning organisation, a charity or just have something to say, nothing can help your campaign more than organising an event in support of your cause. Media focused, mass participation events can help you to gather momentum with your supporters, and can raise awareness and funds for your campaign.
Whilst social action events aren’t new, the increased focus on health & safety, emergency planning and the wellbeing of your supporters means that Affinity is increasingly called upon to provide event management assistance for this type of event.
The nature of these events means that road closures (for protest marches), public demonstrations and the possibility of opposing groups add extra burden to event planners, and this is where Affinity can help. In 2007 alone we were involved in a number of high profile social action events, including the walk to mark the Bi-Centenary of the Abolition of The Slave Trade Act and a number of ‘Cut the Carbon’ events. This means that Affinity have unprecedented experience of this type of event – from the strategic planning stages to the delivery of the event on the day. We have assisted in the delivery of events for a few hundred to a few thousand with media coverage including BBC News, Sky News, national radio and international satellite channels, and with planning including large police and stewarding teams.
Special considerations should be given when undertaking large scale social action events as there are often a number of unknown factors – particularly where the subject matter may be considered contentious. At Affinity our highly skilled event management teams have extensive experience of working with local and statutory authorities to ensure that all parties are working for the benefit of the event – leading to a safe and successful outcome for all involved.
"I know that many, many hours of preparation went into the planning and organisation of the event. It will be a day that will be remembered and for all the right reasons, by the thousands who joined us."
Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury
